Maarten & Femke

Maarten and Femke came over from Belgium for a trip they had wanted to take for years. New York was the city they had always talked about seeing, and they booked a session so the week would leave them with more than a camera roll.

We started on the Upper East Side, on the stone steps of the old mansions along Fifth, and worked our way down to the Met. Both of them were in white, the sky was soft and grey, and the city did what it does on a July morning: taxis, tourists on the steps, someone always walking through the frame.

Then we crossed into the park and kept walking. The lamppost, a bench under the trees, the arcade under Bethesda Terrace, the lake with the San Remo standing over the water, and Bow Bridge to finish. They wanted something to remember the trip by, so we made photographs of the trip itself.
