Fall 2026
Every year New York gets a few good weeks. The elms on the Mall turn yellow, the trees around the Lake go red and orange, and the light comes in low and warm. It is my favourite time of year to photograph people here, and it never lasts as long as you think.
Central Park
Bow Bridge, the boathouse and the San Remo towers, all reflected in the water. The trees around the Lake turn late and turn bright, so it is where I start most fall sessions.
Under the trees
When the canopy goes yellow the light that comes through it does too. It is the most flattering light of the year, especially for babies and little ones.
Late afternoon
From November 1 the best light starts around four. Easy with kids, and you are home before dark.
I book fall sessions in the hour before sunset, when the sun is low enough to light up the leaves from behind. Mornings work too, and the park is quieter.

Bethesda Terrace
Central Park is where most fall sessions happen, but it is not the only option. Prospect Park, Fort Greene, your own street: if the trees are turning, it works.

Fall sessions run until November 30, 2026. Weekend golden hours go first.
Fall Questions
In Central Park it usually lands in the first two weeks of November, a bit later than upstate. Every year is different, so I keep an eye on the trees and will tell you honestly if your date looks early or late. Late October already has plenty of colour around the Lake.
The hour before sunset. Until October 31 that means starting around 5pm. From November 1, when the clocks go back, golden hour starts around 4pm, which works well with kids. You can check the light for the coming week on the booking page.
Warm layers with some texture: knits, wool, denim, a good coat. Cream, camel, rust, navy and deep green all sit well with the leaves. Skip neon and big logos. For families, pick two or three colours and mix them rather than matching. There is more in what to wear for family photos.
We move it. If the forecast looks bad I will message you the day before and we pick a new date together. A grey, overcast day is actually lovely for fall colour, so clouds alone are not a reason to cancel.
