I have been photographing the Bedros family since I moved to New York. It started with Christina's maternity session when she was eight months pregnant, and since then I have photographed the family twice more with their baby boy.

I have been photographing the Bedros family since I moved to New York. This time it was the three of them, at home in their Upper West Side apartment.

Upper West Side
Apartment shoots live and die by the light, and this one made us work for it: we moved furniture, chased the brightest corners, and built each frame around the window light.
That constraint is exactly what makes these images feel like them. The sofa, the bedroom, the afternoon light they actually live in.

Family Session Questions
I follow them rather than fight them. Nobody gets told to sit still and smile at the camera, because that is where family photos usually go wrong. We walk, they run, somebody gets carried, and the pictures come from that. If your toddler has a meltdown halfway through, it is fine. That is a normal part of a family session and we work around it.
Wherever your family actually feels like itself. Central Park, Prospect Park, and Brooklyn Bridge Park are the classics, but your own block, your stoop, or your apartment often makes the better set of photos because the kids are already comfortable there. I shoot across all five boroughs at no extra charge. There are ideas in the guides to Brooklyn and Central Park.
Yes, and it is worth doing while everyone is in town. Give me the headcount when you book so I can plan the timing and the spots, since a group of twelve moves differently to a family of four. Pets are welcome too.
Pick a small palette of two or three colours and let everyone dress within it, rather than matching outfits exactly. Layers help, and comfortable shoes matter more than they sound, because we will be walking. The full guide is in what to wear for family photos.
The hour before sunset gives the softest light and is the most requested slot, so it books first. See golden hour in NYC for the times through the year. Autumn is the busiest season for family sessions, and if you want the colour in the parks, book early. There is a guide to fall photos in NYC. For holiday cards, aim for a session in October or early November so the prints arrive in time.
The Mini is 30 minutes at one location with 15 or more edited images. The Standard runs 60 minutes across one or two locations with 50 or more edited images, plus outfit and location guidance before the day. The Extended runs 90 minutes with 75 or more edited images. Families with small children usually do better with a longer session, because the first twenty minutes are often warm-up.
Generally within five to seven business days and always within 14. They arrive as high-resolution JPGs in a private online gallery you can download, share with family, and order prints from directly. Raw files are not included.
